This area is located in a green valley and ridge ending in a sandy bay, surrounded by rocks and green pine trees. Santa Maria de Llorell is located approximately 4 km south of Tossa de Mar, the pearl of the Costa Brava. Tossa de Mar is a nice and cosy fishing village on the Costa Brava and the Mediterranean Sea. Tossa de Mar is home to the fortress Vila Vella with its narrow streets and stairs that have been kept intact over the many years. The fairy-tale-like fortress now houses many excellent restaurants and shops. The beautiful nature and friendly people definitely make this place a top destination. About 8 miles north of Santa Maria de Llorell is the lively Lloret de Mar, where one can find an active nightlife. The city of Girona is also well worth a visit. The so-called "Ciudad de los Cuatro Ríos" (City of the Four Rivers) has a historic centre that consists largely of medieval buildings with Roman, Arabic and Jewish traces.
