La Palme is a typical village of the Narbonnais, close to the D6009 connecting Narbonne to Perpignan, to the ponds of La Palme and to the Mediterranean Sea. Access to the A9 freeway : Exit n° 39 (Sigean) - Take the direction of Perpignan (D 6009) then direction La Palme (D175). Exit n° 40 (Leucate) - Take the direction Narbonne (D 6009) then direction La Palme/Port La Nouvelle (D709). History : The village of La Palme was once a priory and one of the places of the diocese of Narbonne which sent deputies to the States of the Province. It was given to the Abbey of La Grasse in the year 805 on June 28 by Charlemagne in Attigny in the Ardennes, which was then his residence. In 1206 Amiel d'Auriac, brother of Olivier de Termes, was Lord of Saint-Pancrace given in fief by the Viscounts of Narbonne as well as the castle. A tenth century chapel, Saint Pancrace, still remains in this place. In 1302, after having ceded the seigniory of Saint-Pancrace to his son Bernard, Ameli d'Auriac became Co-Lord of La Palme after the parage signed with the Abbot of La Grasse. In 1503, the Duke of Alba seized Leucate on October 28, as well as the villages of La Palme, Sigean, Fitou, Treilles, Roquefort, Saint Jean de Barrou, Villesèque and other towns and villages as far as Narbonne, where the army commanded by the Marshal of Rieux, who was camped, stopped the Spaniards, who set fire to most of the places, wreaked terrible havoc and took a great deal of booty.
