In the 3rd arrondissement, near the Saint-Charles train station, La Belle de Mai was for a long time the headquarters of the Marseille tobacco factory. Its proximity to La Joliette and Gare Saint-Charles gives it a central position. The district is home to the famous “Friche Belle de Mai”: A disused factory, which has become an industrial wasteland, was renovated and transformed into a cultural and heritage site from the 1990s.
