Recently renovated, the property consists of a modern, open-plan living area, kitchen & stunning balcony dining room on the first floor. Above, are three lovely double bedrooms, reading nook, brand new and luxurious bathroom with two person bath, walk in wet room shower, toilet and vanity, and additional separate WC. Tastefully decorated and furnished with lovely comfy sofas and memory-foam beds, this really is a home away from home.
We have also equipped the property with high-speed broadband, smart TV, Google Chrome Cast, a fantastic selection of holiday reading, DVDs and board games for family fun and cosy nights.
One minute's walk from the front door is the beautiful river Orbieu which passes through the village making it a very beautiful spot for swimming in from May through to October. Up river, there is a deep, calm and wide stretch of pristine river. As l'Orbieu makes its way into Ribaute, it travels over a series of cascading rock formations creating waterfalls & swimming holes for the family to enjoy.
In the height of summer, the river is warm enough for a sunset dip and picnic dinner on the grassy banks.
Ribaute lies in the midst of the Corbières; famous for its wine making. It is easily accessible; only 30mins from Carcassonne Airport and 15min from the A61 auto route. Other airports which are also close include Béziers Cap d’Agde Airport (50min), Perpignan Rivesaltes Airport (60min) & Toulouse Blagnac Airport (1hr 40min).
Ribaute is situated halfway between the beautiful towns of Narbonne (to the east) and Carcassonne (to the west). The village features in the 'Wild Swimming France' book and is a popular summer destination because of it's beautiful, wide river and stunning cascading waterfalls.
Just moments up the road (and river) is the beautiful 11th Century village of Lagrasse with its cobbled streets & covered market. The village is famed for its Abbey, medieval houses and streets, book and pottery fairs over the summer months and a lovely 12th century hump-backed bridge. It is good place to explore any time of the year and has a number of good restaurants, an epicerie, boulangerie & pharmacy . The town has become a haven for artists and many of the attractive medieval houses (some dating back to the 14th century) have been converted into studios and exhibition spaces. Lagrasse was voted “one of the most beautiful villages in France”.
Should you have time to venture further afield, it is just a quick 30min drive to the beautiful Mediterranean beaches at Narbonne Plage. Heading south, you can be in the Pyrenees for summer walking or winter skiing in just 45 minutes. If you're looking for a more varied break, a 3hr drive (or 2hr train journey) lands you in Barcelona; well worth a day-trip if you can tear yourself away from our beautiful riverfront.
