A perfect mountain retreat in the French Pyrennees, far away from busy city life. The dominating ancient Catalan farm sits at 950m altitude and boasts incredible views of the Vallespir, down to the Mediterranean sea. Gite Canigou is our largest and most exclusive gite, decorated with rustic french charm. The space is newly renovated with love and care, using wood from our own forest in the build.
The bedrooms are on the mountain side of the house, making them quiet, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. All beds can be made up as either super king doubles or large singles. The vast open plan kitchen/dining room lounge boasts all the mod cons; including large American fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, TV in a cabinet with hundreds of prerecorded TV shows and movies and WiFi. With underfloor heating and a powerful wood burning stove, Gite Canigou is comfortable any time of year.
On the private terrace, there are 2 sun loungers, a large bench with cushions, table and benches to seat 6, parasol, BBQ and of course the wood fired hot tub, made here @ La Taillede. The hot tub can be used as a cool pool in the day time during the summer and heated up for the evening and winter months.
You will also have shared shared use of a beautiful, large outdoor pool, 12 metres x 6 metres.
There is a playground with swings, see-saw, sand pit, trampoline and playhouse, and a boules pitch.
On the farm we have 3 donkeys, 2 dogs, 4 cats, some chickens and 2 pigs! Kids are encouraged to help out with animal care, should they wish. For anyone staying a full week, we offer donkey rides/ walk with donkeys. During the summer, we offer to all our guests a short walk with the donkeys who carry the aperitif for adults and snacks for kids, we set up rugs on a beautiful spot with views all the way to the sea. It is a great way to get to know each other and for the kids to make friends. During the summer, we also offer 1 communal meal per week in our garden (depending on the situation with Covid-19).
We also have a saw yard and large workshop away from the house, where we make all sorts of things out of our own wood.
There are many walks straight from the house and VTT routes for mountain bikers. The village is 5 minutes away by car, just at the end of the track. Here there are 3 restaurants, a cafe, a playground and an open air swimming pool in July & August.
Please note; we also have a large 2 bedroom apartment (Gite Carlit) on the top floor. We also have 2 one bedroom apartments on the ground floor of the main house, which share a large South facing terrace with fire pit/BBQ; Gite Noisette & Gite Cerise. Plus a yurt in it's own private field. Please enquire for info for larger groups and events.
